Companions

A witch and wizard's familiar will be one of the most important companions they'll have in their lifetime. They are the animal chosen to help the person's advancement through their studies in magic, and at times, aid in other activities. Nowadays however, most familiars are seen more as housepets than domestic aids and spies but the three main insitutions of Europe allow their students to bring one to school.

Hogwarts

Hogwarts is very traditional and selective in its allowance of familiars in its halls. As of today, any kind of cat, owl, or toad are allowed so as long as the animals pose no dangerous threats to the student body. On special occasions, a student may bring a different type of animal with them, but they are usually small rodents such as a rat.

BEAUXBATONS

Beauxbatons has a larger selection of animals to choose from when compared to Hogwarts. On top of the usual three species, other common housepets one would find in a muggle home are expected. Small to medium sized dogs, as well as rabbits are commonly seen within the dormitories of the students. There is also no restriction on birds with the exception of larger raptors (such as eagles.)

DURMSTRANG

Durmstrang is the school with the least amount of restrictions on the kinds of creatures one can bring with them. Including all of the previous mentioned creatures, more 'dangerous' ones, such as snakes and scavengers. The dogs at Durmstrang are much larger and one wouldn't find too many cats around.
