personality
[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]Alwyn could be described as the epitome of his House. A Hufflepuff through and through, not surprising being descended from the Houses founder..With a talents for charms, and a love for all creatures...but to describe his personality in a few words is;
Hard working, he enjoys doing the work -even if it takes a long time- rather then finding shortcuts. He has a huge love for animals, dragons especially..which can be seen in his stash of dragon memorabilia in his office and room.
Alwyn is loyal to a fault to those whom he holds dear, and would be willing to do anything to help them. Unless it brought his morals into question, but other then that he will do anything for them..Now, this dedication and steadfast loyalty doesn't reach to...some members of his family. Namely, his father, whom Alwyn feels was a fool in marrying the 'banshee'.
On the subject of his family...it's complicated. He is always open and loving when speaking of his mother, and her side of the family. He even has a soft spot for his younger half-brothers...but when it comes to his father and step-mother dearest, he has nothing but contempt. Him dropping the 'Kirkland' of his name and keeping his mothers maiden name was his way of showing how much he wanted nothing to do with his father.
That's another thing to know. When hurt deeply, he will remember it and it affects his attitude towards those who have wronged him. Be nice to him and treat him with respect, then Alwyn is a very kind hearted and polite young man. But wrong him, or hurt someone he cares about then...well he will show his fierce and frightening side.
That is another thing; Alwyn can be quite assertive when someone pushes him, it's this side that made him a good Beater for his House team.
Alwyn is considered a good teacher. One of the perks of being patient, and able to handle even the rowdiest of individuals. He cares about his students, and usually pays close attention to them. Usually, if one of them is having a hard time he takes on the big brother role and offers advice or lends an ear. Then afterwords, he gives them one of home made cookies and sends them off. Though that doesn't mean to say he is 'lax' or too easy going with them. He is strict, just not cruel about it. Unlike most, he doesn't play favorites with those of his old House. All students get treated fairly.
Another thing about Alwyn is that he is a romantic. Basically, he is fond of simple love and courting. It's also why he doesn't date often, the only way to get to his heart is to earn it. Seeing his parents marriage fail had a small hand in him being this way...he refuses to fully give himself over to someone unless it is real. While finding people attractive outwardly, it does not mean he will automatically go after them. Man or woman.
Also, one minor thing about him to know is..he can be quite straight forward. He may be laid back, but only to a point...then he will stop taking peoples excuses. If someone is having a petty argument during a crisis, he isn't afraid to point out how ridiculous they are being and get things on track.

history
[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]As all problematic wizarding families go...Alwyn's was no different. In fact, before he was known as Alwyn Kendrick he was born Alwyn Kirkland...The Kirkland was an illustrious wizarding family within the United Kingdom. Most of their members were known for their magical prowess as well as their contributions to the Magical community. They are a family mainly comprised of pure-bloods, and like conservatives families, opt to marry other pure-bloods. Eliot Kirkland, the current heir while known for loving his children wasn't exactly known for just having one wife. Well..marriage. His first had been brief, while his second wife was ..slightly longer but ultimately ended on a sad note. Donna Kendrick was from a lesser known family, mostly famous for being descended from Helga Hufflepuff herself...
The Kendrick's were made famous for their proficiency in Charms, and love and care for beasts. Donna was considered the 'gem' of the family, being the oldest of three and the only girl. She was beautiful, with her auburn hair and wide smile. The family thought she was the most like their founding ancestor, in spirit at least. She was also talented, and was big on healing injured beasts. It was this beauty, and her loving and kind heart that drew Eliot to her. They married and had a brief happiness, but due to his travels and long periods away from home Donna felt their marriage turning more into a 'roommate' arrangement. It wasn't completely fruitless, when their only son was born on March First.
Alwyn Dylan Kirkland.
While his mother was happy, and the boy was loved by his father..Donna was unsatisfied with the marriage. Saddened by her husbands lack of attention, and now practically raising the boy by herself she asked for a divorce. The couple split, and while Eliot moved on to a new love (or loves) Donna was just heart broken. She decided to raise their son on her own, and she attained custody of the boy. As such, Eliot didn't really visit him often and was focused more on his oldest son (and women).
This is probably why his mothers family thought it best to drop the 'Kirkland' and have him be Kendrick. The name change would help keep him separate from the 'oldest' Kirkland child.
Alwyn was then raised a Kendrick, learning about charms and spending most of his early childhood with his mother. His grandparents introduced him to the magical community, and educated him on their own family history. Such as the fact he should be proud to be descended from one of Hogwarts founders, and of their families talents in charms and magical animal care. Alwyn was happy...but he still wanted to know his father, even if it was just a few visits. His grandparents said he could visit the Kirkland's after he was a student in Hogwarts...
He turned eleven and got his letter to Hogwarts. With his kind nature, and hard working attitude he was accepted into Hufflepuff. It was while there he actually got a chance to see the elusive half brother that his mother had told him about. The oldest, whom Alwyn figured was the heir...but since the other was much older then him, the Welsh boy decided to feel proud of his achievements from afar. 'He's cool, and strong..something to look up to!' Is what he thought, and indeed even though he didn't introduce himself, he saw Ian as a role model.
Alwyn didn't actually have an interaction with the Kirkland's until he was...much older. He was in his fourth year, and had just joined the Quitditch team. Eliot thought it due time to introduce him to his 'family' and get to know them, which Alwyn was excited and nervous..he thought maybe he could be close to them. That was a mistake, since that was when he met 'The Banshee'.
Upon arriving, Alwyn noticed a few things...One, he was an older brother so that was nice..and two, his new step-mother was quite the snake. She treated him with cold contempt, making back handed comments about his mother and family. Questioning if he was a real Kirkland, considering he was in Hufflepuff. It made his blood boil, and he quickly came to despise her...but he felt affection towards Arthur. Actually he felt sorry for him, having such a woman like that as a mother.
As the boys grew Alwyn found that Eliot stopped requesting him to the Kirkland home. A suggestion by his wife no doubt, further marking her as a 'banshee' or snake in his mind. That hurt...That Eliot would listen to her, or at least not make an effort to see him. But he was not really one to lash out, so instead of rebelling or acting out at school, Alwyn began channeling that festering anger into his sport. Needless to say, the young man became quite an accomplished Beater. Many of his teammates saying he practically changed when on a broom, looking like an angry badger while slamming his club into a Bludger.
He made a name for himself in school. Finding himself very proficient in charms, and Care of Magical creatures. Alwyn's grandparents were proud, and his mother was happy...though he really wished that his father could be proud too. So, as he grew the young man did not have much contact with his Kirkland siblings. Not if that 'woman' would be there...After graduating, he began to work alongside his grandfather caring for the more...dangerous Magical beasts. Alwyn had a heart that was caring towards dragons, and other 'frightening' things that many Wizards in the field didn't want to try and help. He would have owned a dragon as a pet, but honestly the creature would have burned the house down...and his mother talked him out of it.
By the time he was twenty-four, he had become very proficient in learning the ways of Magical creatures..and encountered quite a few. Which is why when the current Care of Magical Creatures professor had gotten injured, they wrote him a letter asking him to fill in. Alwyn agreed, though kind of nervous because he had never contemplated being a Professor. It was only a year right?
Well, after the first year acting as the Professor he found...he quite liked it. But, he found that taking on the position meant he could watch on his little half brother.. The years not writing, or trying to keep touch with his father...put a huge divide. He still remembered his little brother, and subconsciously he wanted to have some connection with the Kirkland's. In the two years he has been acting as the Care of Magical creatures Professor, he not only had a chance to try and get to know his little half brother..but his older one too!
If he couldn't be close to his father, he could at least try and bond with his brothers..right?
He has been acting Professor for two years now, and Alwyn is trying to keep his students minds on their actual work...though he is looking forward to the incoming Triwizard Tournament, eager to see what kind of creatures they will bring in for the tasks. Though, he hopes Arthur doesn't enter...they may not be extremely close, but Alwyn doesn't want to see him killed.

He had done it...
Alwyn panted, standing over the fading body of the creature beneath him. His chest heaved for air, body soar and bleeding from the fight. Blood gushed from deep claw wounds on his chest, back and arms but in his hand was the proof f his victory. A bloodied dagger, coated with the red liquid of the Sluagh. The creature, was on its back with multiple stabs riddling its body. Blood soaked the ground, its baldish head was was lolled back, black eyes dull and lifeless. It was finally dead...gone. The young teens heart pounded, the adrenaline pumping through his veins as his hands shook. Slowly, he looked to his right hand that held the dagger. I...shall be fully Fey now...
"...I...I killed him..it.."
His mind went back to how this whole thing began....The whole reason he was here...All for the Queen, all to be strong.

It was a gathering this night.
The forest glade was dark. Mist gathered on the mossy ground, the cold air moaned through the trees and swayed their mottled leaves. The scene looked haunting, with the gnarled branches of the trees reaching towards the gray sky and the leaf's falling to the moss covered ground. The sounds of faint music could be heard, and at the end of the forest path was the Queen of Air and Darkness. Her statuesque form sat gracefully on her throne made of stone, with vines of thorns wrapping around the back. Her dress looked to be made of spun spiderweb, wrapped around her long legs and fanned out to the ground. She had a shawl of black raven feathers draped upon her shoulders, a string of black and red jewels strung in silver chains circled her throat. Mab's long, black hair fell loosely towards her waist, and a crown of amethyst shimmered in the moonlight. Strapped to her waist was a long sword, unsheathed and ready to be used. Her fierce, wide black eyes gazed out into the wood. She had the look of a Queen, yet one could tell she was frightening. For she ruled over the Unseelie, with an iron fist....
Without a word, she raised her hand and beckoned those of the wood to come forth. Out of the wood came them..the Unseelie, all those dark and unlucky creatures. The hags, trolls and witches, the goblins and the smaller fey. Some looked humanoid, whilst others looked hideous and every bit the monstrous creatures parents told their children about. Red caps, freshly covered in blood and the buggar came out first, then the Bodoach came as well. One not as pretty as the others, or hideous, he looked to be sixteen years old. His frame was lithe and slightly curved at the hips, but his skin was smooth and he was slightly muscular. His bright green eyes were downcast, as he tried blending in with the others. He was dressed in a white, skirt type cloth and brown pants tucked into black boots.
His red hair brushing his shoulders, strings of webs weaved into the strands.
Mab looked out towards her court. "Tonight, one of you shall be chosen for a great honor." The people murmured and shuffled, Mab's eyes were sharp as she stared them all down. Alwyn glanced up and he thought for a moment, her eyes landed on him but she went back to scanning the crowd. "As you know...Our skirmish with the Light court was unsuccessful. My black Crow has failed his task. So now...we must have a new warrior...Who will be my blackened Knight?" With a roar, the crowd all raised their hands and the hunt was on. Inside Alwyn's heart...he wanted that honor. She smiled cruelly, Alwyn looked up at that because something inside him said...he was to be the one. "Now...you know what to do. May the blood of the past be spilt, and the winner present himself before me!"
He had left the rotting body to present his prize to the Queen. As he approached her throne, the dread of what was going to happen hit him. Alwyn knew that this would not be pleasant, especially for a half-blood like him. He was human, his heart was weak..even now he felt so..disgusting with the blood of another drying on his fingers. Even now he hurt with that wounds...But on the other hand that was why he wanted this title, this honor. If he became a full 'Unseelie' he would not be considered weak, or a burden to anyone. For too long he was treated like weakling for his human blood, if he became the Queen's warrior than he would be powerful and a full fea creature... Finally he stepped before the Queen, kneeling before her and presented his dagger. "..I win..."
Her face was un-moving for a long time until, slowly, her lips turned up and grinned, her face like a wolf hungry. "Well done young Half-blood, now...claim your prize as the new Unseelie warrior."
Alwyn shook with adrenaline, the possibility of this being a wrong choice was in the back of his mind. But, he refused to think that..he would be the Queen's Crow, he would be known and feared. He would be someone...
Yes...he would be a true Unseelie...
