Sure it's rough around the edges
It's the only thing you see

The boy offered to make the suggestion if he ever found himself in the position to do so, and Ion smiled slightly at that. ”I would appreciate that. I imagine I’m not the only one who would either. Certainly it would open up more opportunities for people who were better at specific aspects of a job that requires both field work and paperwork,” he mused with a slight smile. Of course, he didn’t expect implementing it to be easy, and there would likely be quite a bit of trial and error until they got it working efficiently without issue. Still, he thought it was worth suggesting if the opportunity came up. He likely wouldn’t be in a position to suggest it anytime in the near future, but since Nicolau intended to go straight into the ministry maybe he would move a rank or two before Ion settled on a job. Actually, that seemed rather likely now that he thought about it. He would be trying jobs for at least a few months before giving up on them unless they were completely and totally dreadful after all. How could he know he truly hated it unless he gave it a few months’ chance right?
Hopefully he eventually found something he liked and didn’t just end up swapping jobs every few months for the rest of his life. Sure, it would keep things exciting, but it would probably look bad on his resume that he quit every six months at some point. Unless they were hiring seasonal employees, employers likely didn’t want someone who walked out after six months to a year all the time. He sighed at Nicolau’s next comment though. ”Office jobs are safe, they provide income and stability. Kids who don’t come from wealthy families are probably interested in such things just so that they can survive on their own,” he mused with a frown. He had thought about running away more than once, and only hadn’t simply because he knew he wouldn’t be able to live on his own without an income while he was still in school. Besides, he could put up with his father until he was out, it wasn’t too much longer so he was just sort of waiting it out at this point. ”I’m not so sure it’s that ambitions and dreams grow smaller, just that people believe them to be unrealistic as they age and so give up on them before trying,” he frowned a little. Some dreams you had as a child just weren’t practical, not everyone could get that dream job that made their inner child happy.
Then he suggested that the boy might fit as an obliviator, as he was quite good at charms as well, and apparently it had never even been considered. ”Why not? I would have thought it to be a natural consideration based on your skills,” he offered with a slight smile. ”Perhaps we will, I suppose only time will tell if we meet again once we graduate,” he said shrugging slightly. Though, perhaps even if they weren’t working together they could remain friends and keep in contact? They were friends right? He thought maybe they would be after this conversation. Though, he knew one conversation did not make friendship, perhaps they would have more of these conversations in the future though. They had all year in order to establish an actual friendship before Ion graduated and was off on his adventure to find a job he could live with.
Hearing the glitter bomb suggestion, he grinned. ”I could fill the hat with glitter and charm it to sort of pop out once the package is opened. That’s an inspired idea,” he said simply. His father would likely send him a howler for that, but he was pretty sure it was worth it. He was going to get one for the hat alone regardless, so he might as well go all out. ”I’m sure I could charm the glitter to stick more effectively too,” he said, pondering the idea a bit more. The idea of his father literally sparkling though was rather appealing to him. Maybe he’d have to do some more research and figure out just how to go about doing so. It was Nicolau’s suggestion, so maybe he would be willing to assist with that research as well. Certainly he could ask, though he would do so later as right now they were sort of just throwing ideas around. His affinity for fire was commented on, and he shrugged with a smile. ”I’m not sure official fire starter is a real job,” he said with a slight laugh. Perhaps there was a job that involved setting all sorts of things on fire though. It was something else to consider he supposed. He really was gaining all sorts of little research projects from this conversation, now wasn’t he?
He listened to Nicolau describe his childhood and he wondered how differently he would have turned out if he had had peers before he turned eleven, or had been allowed to leave the yard. Perhaps he would be considerably less socially inept if that was the case? Probably at the very least. ”I was home schooled about wizardly things, and didn’t consistently have peers until I was eleven, he said with a slight frown. ”Anything I wanted to try that was considered too muggle usually only lasted a week before I was pulled out of it. So, while I did want to try sports, I wasn’t allowed. My childhood was mostly just me doing strange hobbies by myself and destroying things,” he said with a shrug. He had to keep himself entertained, as after a while nobody else would. Instead of getting things to do when he misbehaved he just got punished and even less to do, so he’d taken a few fleeting hobbies more seriously while being shut away to his own devices.
