[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]She’s beauty, she’s grace, she’ll put you in your place! She’s Marianna Edelstein!
Cue applause. Marianna walks on stage. Smile. Greet the host. Crowd settles down… Oh, this isn’t actually about some Miss Universe thing. This is just an example of how organized Marianna is. Typically cut-and-dry sort of young woman, always looking for something to do and never without her little planner. Nothing special about it. Always the same brand, same color, same size… A small, brown cover made of leather. At the very least it’s made of good materials, and she typically never gets rid of them. She can recall most dates throughout her life and the significances of each day. One might consider her OCD in that manner, but she would call it a collective timeline. A life map.
Marianna is an interesting woman. On the outside she is proper, elegant, and can often be seen as an almost motherly sort. Despite her strictness and that riding crop she carries, she will rarely turn down someone in need of help. She has a soft spot for those younger for her, though not quite so much for those who are her senior. Women especially will find comfort with her. She loves cooking for others and gathering recipes- also what you’ll find in her planners.
On the inside she gets more complicated. She sees herself as wholly linked to her brother Roderich, with him being the main body and her just an attachment both in body and in mind. If he is happy then she is happy. If he is upset then so is she. She feels deeply connected to him even despite their separation, and so in her mind so long as she does whatever is best for him then she will also gain a sense of completion… whether she’s in a terrible situation or not.
This also comes from her skills in Divination. She can predict events rather precisely, though she herself is not a Seer. She does, however, also excel in Legilimency. She uses these skills to foresee events involving Roderich, and one of the biggest affect this has in her life is that when she attempts to foresee anything involving herself… she gets nothing in return. For the longest time Marianna assumed it may be because she cannot focus solely on herself and constantly thinks of Roderich, but now she whole-heartedly believes it is because she is connected with Roderich and her future is dependent on his.
She is not her own person… Though she carries herself with confidence, she is everything but a human being. She’s an attachment. A small part of something much larger… And she’ll do anything to build up Roderich.

history
[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]Twins. To some people it’s such an intriguing concept. Namely when they’re identical, and even more so when it’s a rare case of a male and a female who still look very much alike. Do they have the same thoughts? Feelings? Can they feel each other’s pain? Do they know each other better than anyone else? There’s so much still a mystery about them.
So why, then? Why did she stick out more than her brother? It wasn’t like he didn’t have a voice. She spoke up for him all the time. She was his voice, and she made most certain to be loud enough to be heard! They’d always been like that. They knew each other. She knew him. She knew when he wanted juice. When he wanted food, sleep, you name it. He followed along wherever she went and they were practically inseparable. She would often try to get him to sing with her, even if he really didn’t make much noise. That was fine. They only needed to be together.
However, people seemed put off by her brother. He was too quiet. He didn’t stand out. Marianna was a bright light and Roderich was swallowed up by it. They seemed to believe she couldn’t hear them… as if her voice was so loud it would drown out theirs. That maybe Roderich wouldn’t hear, either… But he did. She could see the change in him.
He started wearing glasses. It hurt a bit at first seeing him wear something that made him different from her. He didn’t even need them, but he wore them anyway. He picked up playing music rather than singing with her… But that was fine. She loved his music, and so did the others. They were astounded by his abilities, but…
Soon enough he had his own voice. She heard it loud and clear in the music he wrote. His joy, his anger, his every emotion. Marianna heard his voice louder than she ever had before, but at times it just seemed like it wasn’t enough.
Everyone else needed to hear just as loudly as she could.
So she began writing song lyrics for his music, though she could never quite bring herself to speak them aloud. The older she grew, the more she became aware that she was still ever so much louder than he was. She needed to quiet herself. Let Roderich shine where he should as the up and coming head of their family. He needed to be heard. She needed to help him do that. It was her job as the “older” sibling.
Marianna began to live solely for Roderich. She wouldn’t have called it obsessive. She was just a good sister, always working hard to make him happy. Working to make his life as comfortable as possible, regardless of the situation it put her in. This was her life’s goal.
Yet somehow others didn’t seem pleased by her decision, unbeknownst to her. It wasn’t as though she hid it, but she never saw anything wrong with it. She was just doing what any good sister would. How could anyone blame her?
Let alone blame Roderich.
Somewhere along the line before her time going to the Durmstrang Institute, Roderich left for Beauxbatons. He had asked to go to a different school, which was an odd event… And the fact that he left without her took its toll in a way. He went clear to the other side of Europe without her, and she didn’t have a good enough reason to go to the school like he did.
She hadn’t been bullied.
Despite Vash being her cousin she held a great grudge against him for whatever he’d done to make Roderich leave. She knew about the argument. Knew they were awkward around each other because of it, and all she cared about it was that Vash had made Roderich leave and therefore he deserved whatever resentment she had for him because of it.
However, it was hard to focus on all that with one particular friend she’d made: Antonio Carriedo. The man was so bright and cheerful that it practically drowned out her more harsh side. Somehow she’d managed to convince him to carry her through physical training, and he did so without complaint. Since the beginning of her time in Durmstrang until her final year- the current year- he has always been with her. Somehow he seemed to fill in a hole left by her twin.
During the breaks she would invite Antonio to their family castle. Thank goodness for that since he’s the only one who really knows the castle like the back of his hand as opposed to the Edelstein twins. They could wander the place for ages and never really get anywhere. It was a blessing, really.
Now it’s normal for him to go wherever Marianna went, and with him wanting to try for the Tri Wizarding Tournament she has followed him to Hogwarts… But of course also to see Roderich who would be there.
So much to do, so little time.

[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]Again.
Again.
AGAIN.
There was a loud, abrupt smashing of piano keys from the music room. Marianna stared at her thin fingers trembling before she balled them into a fist and took a deep breath. It always turned out this way. Always. She couldn’t play like he could. No matter how much she practiced it just wasn’t quite right. He was her twin. She could hear every emotion in his notes, and yet she couldn’t play them herself. It was like an unfair barrier set between them, and she couldn’t find a way around it.
Not without him there.
With one swift movement she was scooping up the lyrics she’d written and standing, dusting off her hideous uniform and strutting out of the music room. The pants always felt so uncomfortable and just chaffed in unpleasant ways. Everything about this school was the opposite of her preferences. It was strict, there was physical training, and then there were the pants. She wanted to leave, but there were things keeping her here.
Number one: Roderich. In this school were powerful families. The Institute was old and didn’t even allow Muggleborns in. Everyone here was serious about what they did and if she could find a potential marriage candidate then she could make the Edelstein family more powerful. That power would transfer to the head of her family- Roderich- and make life more comfortable for him.
Number two: she had been advised not to go following her brother. Much to her dismay the family wouldn’t let her ask for a transfer once she'd started going to Durmstrang, or else she would have. She fought it tooth and nail, but alas… to no avail.
Oh, and then there was the hesitantly-admitted number three: the Spaniard. Somehow Toni had wormed his way into her life- or more like carried her through life- and since then she’d become rather… attached. Not in a romantic way, of course! Heavens no! He may have a pretty face, nice abs, a kind demeanor, gorgeous eyes, an adorable laugh……. No, not romantic at all. Just friends, but strong enough friends that she couldn’t just leave anyplace without him.
She hadn’t made it far down the hall before she was already feeling exhausted. She promptly leaned against a window sill and fidgeted slightly with the papers in her hands. Curfew would be in a few and she was on the opposite side of the castle from her dorm… She needed to get there fast.
Her eyes immediately went to her little familiar, the lynx sitting patiently at her feet. A small smile spread across her lips as she kneeled down beside it, scribbling something onto the back of a blank lyric sheet and folding it up.
”Take zhis to Toni, vould you?” The small lynx took the paper into its mouth and hurried off while Marianna straightened back up and returned to leaning against the window sill. ”I hope he gets here quick. My feet are tired.”
More fidgeting. She wasn’t nervous, of course. She was never nervous. She could even face Vash in a duel and have him on his toes! Why should meeting this boy make her heart race so much?
No, clearly it was the workout. Walking- or exercise in general- had never really been her strong suit.
