[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]Always, Ariel has been stubborn. He never took orders against his own wishes well as a young child and he doesn't today. Ariel has been instilled with a fierce fighting spirit since birth. He had actually been very sickly throughout his youth. Still, that did not keep Ariel from fighting. He often landed himself into lots of trouble. Even when others punished him for his rebellious behavior, Ariel never seemed learn.
Because his primary focus was always to survive and never really to impress anyone, Ariel has formed the habit of being coarse and not knowing when to close his mouth. He's terribly blunt and likes to nag others. Ariel is nothing like a gentleman. He'll shove people if they're in his way and he doesn't spare anybody his opinions. He likes to egg people on and agitate them. Ariel is an expert at gaining the ire of others
Ariel honestly has no patience. He likes to set a fast pace and becomes terribly annoyed when others can not compete with it. Things irritate far too easily, and he tends to display a rapid, easily triggered temper. It's partly a defense mechanism that he uses, but he always had been impatient.
Despite his outward apathy for others, Ariel is a very generous person who does go out of his way to help even random strangers. If somebody is just standing there doing nothing helpful, Ariel will push them out of his way. But if that person looks like he or she needs help, he doesn't usually just stand there, and he tries to aid them. If somebody is crying, especially if it's a child, Ariel will try to soothe that person. He knows what it is like to be alone and without anybody to comfort while he is crying. His actions often surprise people since he does things that most people do not expect from him.
It's extremely hard to make a bitter enemy out of Ariel, and it is very challenging for Ariel to hate. He has a kind heart which rarely bares little ill will towards others except for annoyance. Often, Ariel has short bursts of tempers or anger which rarely lasts a long while. However, every so often Ariel comes across people who can kindle a fire which is rarely smothered easily. Lasting anger or grudges do not come often, and forgiveness comes even less often. Once Ariel has formed a grudge or hatred against someone, it is usually even harder for him to forgive said, person.
For someone who seems not to know when to shut up, Ariel is brilliant, especially when it is science and technology that is the topic. And no, he's not very modest about this either, as he likes correcting people and smart mouthing everybody. And he wonders why so many people dislike him so much?
He has a talent for being very humorous. He does this both on purpose and without realizing it.
Ariel has a reputation of complaining. Excessively. He's always ranting about something, and he rarely ever seems to be pleased. While this isn't entirely accurate, Ariel does tend to act bratty. Ariel likes being in control, and he hates when things don't go his way. Unfortunately, things rarely do ever go his way, which might contribute to the reason he's whiny in the first place. That doesn't make him any less of a hard worker. He's gotten too used to laboring hard to quit. If he doesn't have anything to work on, he tends to feel empty. One could say he is a workaholic.
He immediately is suspicious of people. He doesn't trust anybody or anything, which is the reason why he is often so paranoid. He fears other people so much that he has become something of a hermit. His paranoia is to the point where Ariel has a fear of other people. Or rather, a fear of becoming close to other people. Ariel's rude personality was created by him to push others away. It was originally meant to be a facade, but as time went on, it became a permanent mask.

history
[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]He began his life in the Israel. However, because his family moved to Egypt a few weeks after his birth, Ariel remembers little about him home country. He was one of the two survivors of a fire that burned down his home. It was thanks to his older sister that he escaped with his life. No one was exactly positive how the fire began. Most agreed it was an accidental fire. Ariel would disagree, even if he was too young to remember what happened, but he'd disagree just for the sake of opposing. Since he was a baby at the time, he had no recollection of the rest of his family when he tried to recall their faces later on. He could very, very vaguely remember feeling warm as a baby. Although, it was possible this feeling came from the fire that had almost touched him.
His eldest sister became like his mother(ish). Despite the girl being barely 14 herself, she strove to support both herself and her baby brother. She was forced to raise him and deal with the pains of rearing a child. She discovered that raising her baby brother was a difficult task. Her little brother as thankfully not a picky eater, but as if to make up for it, he was far too curious for his own good. While he was still learning to walk, it wasn't too big of an issue. But afterward, his sister found out the hard way that Ariel liked to wander around. He also had a terrible knack for landing himself in more trouble than she thought she could handle. Time and time again Ariel's adventures proved her wrong. Time and time again they pushed her abilities to defuse situations further.
Ariel, being the sensitive little boy he was, often sensed his sister's stress. He noticed the toll it was having on her body more than even herself. To be exceptionally perceptive at such a young age was an unusual trait in Ariel. It was also slightly strange, considering he had such a difficulty understanding the intentions of others. His naivety dictated that all people were inherently good, making him overly trusting. Being concerned for his sister's well-being, he made an effort to help his sister support them. But later on, Ariel would guiltily reflect that he usually only worsened the situation.
He had an uncanny ability for saying just the right words that offended people. He could turn the most gentle soul against him thanks to his unhelpful talent of gaining the ire of others. He never meant to worsen everything, and he always attempted to calm things down. But often, his sister had to save little Ariel from being severely injured. He always appreciated his big sister's help, but he regretted that he was always causing more trouble for her by wandering off.
There was a time when Ariel rarely frowned and when he was always smiling. There was a time when he would not hesitate to forgive anyone. There was a time when he wore his heart on his sleeve and welcomed the world with open arms. But those times swiftly passed for Ariel. From the very beginning, he inadvertently exposed himself to the brutality of the world. It was a miracle how he stayed so bright and cheerful for so long. He grew up in a world and was surrounded by people who rarely forgave, yet Ariel never hesitated to wave away past offenses. But even he, a child who saw everything through the glass half full, could not escape reality's twisted hold forever.
A few days before his 10th birthday (or at least when they had decided to celebrate it), he and his sister argued bitterly. They exchanged harsh and unyielding words that had stung both parties. His sister was exhausted. His sister had contended with her brother's immaturity for almost ten years. Finally, she had snapped and begun the argument that was to tear the two siblings apart. Neither could ever be the same again after his sister abandoned Ariel. That day, Ariel began to speculate his whole life up until that point. As he did so, he began to notice how naive he had always been. Ariel began to hear the shouts of anger and the wailing of the lost. Suddenly he couldn't bring himself to be as cheerful as before. Somehow he was having difficulty seeing himself forgiving anyone. It was as if ten years of hidden hurt and anger burst from its cage. The intensity of his feelings brought him to tears.
Later on during the evening, after he had dried his eyes, he began to fret about his current predicament. He had been entirely dependent on his sister. Without his wonderful sister, he was but an unsure child. Though he wouldn't admit it, he was frightened. Though he was starving, he did not have the energy to scrounge for food. He had a difficult time resting his head, but after tossing and turning relentlessly, he was finally able to drift off into the dream world.
His 10th birthday was a dull one, or at least that was what he had expected to come out of it. Instead, he found himself introduced to the world of wizards. His whole situation was quite peculiar. The series of events that led him to Hogwarts all started with an accident. A mere accident that somehow or another got him to the UK. It was the pity of a loathful couple that helped him reach the UK. Said loathful couple happened to be rare pureblood wizards who sympathized muggle-borns. When they had a chance encounter with the young boy, they were quick to recognize signs that Ariel was a wizard. Through means of gentle persuasion, they convinced the reluctant child to come back with them to Britain. At the time, he had been especially desperate.
The UK proved to be a great shocking surprise to Ariel. The language change did not bother him for he had grown up around a mixture of tourists and so had picked up much of the English language. But the environment and the culture was so different from Egypt or what his sister had taught him about his nativeland, Israel. He was in no ways pleased with the change. But he forced himself to deal with it. He was the one who had agreed to trust complete strangers (not a wise decision), and this was the price he was paying for doing so. It wasn't long before he somehow got roped into attending Hogwarts. His letter of acceptance came after his 11th birthday and a certain incident that he always regretted. It involved a car, a distracted driver, and a foolish Ariel. Essentially, a car had rammed into Ariel uncontrollably. Somehow Ariel was not only able to survive, but he quickly recovered until the only telltale that he ever was in an accident was a scar that marked his left hip.
As he lived in England, a teacher taught him to read and write. Quick to understand concepts, Ariel proved to be a fast reader, though his handwriting was atrocious. He found an interest in books. Ever since any extra time he can find he usually spends reading a book. Because Ariel knew scarce about Hogwarts and the magical community in general, he spent much of his time researching about both subjects. The pureblood couple was glad to aid Ariel in his research. They provided him with a plentiful source of books. The day they showed him their library and gave him permission to read any book in the library whenever he liked, Ariel started to grow somewhat fond of the couple. He at least appreciated their generosity, though he was suspicious of their reasons for showing him such kindness.
With the insistence of Ariel, the couple applied for him a British citizenship. Having become quite affectionate of the young, orphaned boy, they had wanted to adopt him. Ariel being Ariel hated the idea. But by the time he found out about the whole idea, they were in the middle of the process, and they couldn't exactly back out then. Ariel was beyond furious. It took lots of persuasions and bribing to win Ariel to their side. Ariel later revealed that the reason he reacted so terribly was not so much that he was angry, though Ariel was upset about the whole ordeal, it was because he wanted the chocolate they offered him to obtain his favor. He technically should have used the last name, 'Fenn,' after the whole process. Even so, he stuck with the surname of his birthparents (according to his older sister, at least), 'Harel.'
When he first stepped into the doors of Hogwarts, Ariel was unsure of what he could expect. He soon figured out that because he was a Muggle-born, they viewed him as inferior. So as long as nothing turned violent, Ariel never retaliated physically when they called him 'mudblood' or any other cruel names. He only fought back when things became physical, a habit of his. He found that against children his age, he had a chance of winning. But fights rarely enthralled him. They reminded him of the trouble he always caused his older sister. He abhorred fighting, but that didn't mean he wanted to be a doormat that everyone just stepped on. He was perfectly willing to fight for the purpose of defending himself.
Because others often picked on him, he developed the habit of sticking to himself. He rarely showed his face outside of class, and he did not participate in any extracurricular activities. He spent most his time studying, even if the majority of the time, there was little need for him to use his entire time studying. He also stayed closer to adults. It would be foolish to bother him if he hovered around the teachers. He stuck to the moving crowds that often filled Hogwarts's corridors to travel around the large building without sustaining an injury. For all his carefulness, others harassed daily. He tried not to let it get to him, but words were like a razor blade. In these instances, they stabbed at him relentlessly. They would never stop until he was dead. He couldn't ignore them, but he dared not murder himself. With the matter in mind, he would often debate with himself. One side insisted on living while the other was too tired to continue living. In the end, he found himself too much of a coward to end his life.
He was quick to understand difficult concepts. His grades were high but not because he aimed for such high marks. In all honesty, he could care less about his grades. But he was hard-working by nature, so he strived to learn. He wasn't aiming to prove himself either. But he pushed himself to read many books for the sake of doing something. He wasn't even trying to learn anything. He seemed to have an affinity towards potions, having the highest score in it than any other class. The only class that he was probably failing was the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. If he didn't hate it so much and wasn't such a stubborn person, he could be passing that class. Nonetheless, Ariel refused to study or do anything for that particular class. Other than that, he was beyond passing his classes.
A talking hat naturally came as a surprise to him. Inevitably, thanks to the Fenns, he was exposed to magic. He had read plenty about the Sorting Hat as well. But nothing could prepare him for a hat that was enchanted to talk. And sing, apparently. It was the Sorting Hat. It sorted newcomers into one of the four houses. The four houses were: Gryffindor. (Those sorted usually were courageous and determined.) Hufflepuff. (This house's members were hard-working and patient.) Ravenclaw. (Rowena Ravenclaw, the founder of this particular house, valued creative and intelligent students.) Slytherin. (The house was considered evil due to its abundance of dark wizards, something Ariel was not surprised by because of its acceptance of only those who were cunning and ambitious). Ariel recalled the experience to be quite strange. The Sorting Hat certainly took its time sorting him. It kept debating between Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. It even suggested Slytherin a few times before deciding otherwise. Ariel was not a very ambitious person. In the end, it went with Hufflepuff, on account of his hardworking nature. Ariel did have to wonder why the Sorting Hat could not have settled on that reason earlier. Sitting was never something Ariel could stand.
He hadn't been very interested in Quidditch, but he had tried out once in his second year. He never tried out again. Not after he was so kindly embarrassed in front of anyone watching. He was certain someone had cruelly jinxed his broom, for though he wasn't a fantastic flier, he decent at least. That day he had displayed wretched flying skills and ended up injuring himself and nearly another student. After that, he refused to have anything to do with Quidditch. He also avoided flying as much as he could. It forced him to relive that day of the tryouts and the pleasant event that occurred. As much as he enjoyed his broom acting all weirdly and making him seem like a terrible flyer, Ariel preferred not to involve himself in Quidditch. Too brutal was his excuse. No one appeared to mind that grumpy Isa would rather shut himself indoors to study. They probably were relieved that he kept to himself.
He was unsure what electives he would prefer the most. His curiosity and love for history prompted him to choose the Study of Ancient Runes as one elective. He had a high aptitude for learning new languages, so Ancient Runes proved to be straightforward and uncomplicated for him. After much deliberation, he decided he'd also attend the Care of Magical Creatures class. He was often impatient with creatures, and even the animals were not immune to his gift of angering others. Of course, he was far too impatient and far too inclined to irritation. He did not change his electives that year, but after his third year came to a close, he thoroughly reconsidered the electives he was taking.
Since alchemy seemed like potions (he now wonders where he got the idea), he decided to have it as an elective in his sixth year. There were few classes that he failed in. Defense Against the Dark Arts wasn't a subject that Ariel struggled in, per say. No, it was more like it was a subject he struggled with. But in alchemy, his grades reflected his talent in it. He always had a difficulty with it, no matter how much he strived to learn about it. It only took him a week to beg a schedule change. Ariel honestly couldn't keep up with the rest of the class. He had a difficult time memorizing the properties of everything, etc. Ariel suffered miserably through the whole class each day. Had he been making a larger deal out of it than it had been, and thus, failed it? Probably. Oh well, after he escaped the clutches of alchemy, he swore never to return to it ever again.

[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]How long had he been here? On this ship? How long had it been since he had been dragged away from his family and knocked out? How long had it been since he had touched the silky green grass with his feet? How long had it been since his legs were free to jump and twirl and spin and run? Too long, he decided. Too long since he had seen his mother and father and his brothers. It had been far too long, and Ariel wanted to go home. To go back to his family. To be in their warm care. He was only a child. He was confused and lonely and scared. The people around him were foreign to him. He could tell they were very scared. It made him scared in turn. He curled up in a ball and sobbed quietly. What was going to happen to him?

He no longer wondered what was going to happen to him. It was far too obvious. He would be made into a slave. Again. All of his instincts told him to try to escape. However, Ariel knew it was pointless. He had already tried to do so. He had failed. He was chained and shackled. He could not move much anywhere. If he did try to escape… Well, it probably wasn’t worth the pain
He glanced at the other people. They were all huddled up. Some were trying stay strong and not cry, but Ariel could see the tears forming. Others were wiping tears away and sobbing. Ariel wasn’t. For him, it was all too nostalgic. He had already been captured once. He knew what his fate would be. For him, there was no point in crying. But he understood the others’ feelings. So very softly, Ariel comforted the others. He guessed many of them were surprised that a child of only twelve years old was trying to comfort them. But he guessed they were taking heart that a twelve year old was not crying. Many of them wiped their tears and smiled at him in gratitude. Despite the situation he had landed himself in, Ariel felt warm from the wordless thank you's conveyed by smiles.
