They were coming! Feli bounced back and forth on his heels, eyes riveted on the shore of the lake. He didn’t fully comprehend why they were congregating by the lake, but as soon as their headmaster announced that the Durmstrang representatives would be arriving on the lake, Feli made certain that he’d be among the first to greet them. Well them, yes, but more specifically him! Gilbert Beilschmidt. It had only been 3 years since Gilbert had transferred from Hogwarts and Feliciano had really missed having the upbeat man around the school. Like his brother, Gilbert had always looked out for Feli, never letting anyone pick on him or bully him. But more than that, Gilbert never acted like he believed that Feli had been sorted into the wrong house by mistake. He never doubted Feli’s presence as a fellow Slytherin, even when Feli doubted it himself. Best yet, Feli could always could on Gil to have a smile and a joke to combat even the worst of moods. So when he was transferred, Feli was devastated. Sure he still got to visit the Beilschmidt estate over breaks with Luddi and it was nice getting to see Gilbert there, but it just hadn’t been the same. But now! For the rest of the year, Gilbert Beilschmidt was returning to Hogwarts! Feliciano couldn’t help his beaming smile at the thought. He wondered if he was going to meet any of Gil’s friends, and he wondered what they were like. Gil was the kind of person who attracted all sorts of attention so Feli had no doubt that he had plenty of friends, and maybe a few enemies as well. Regardless, Feli was certain he would return with plenty of great stories to share with Feli and Luddi, just as he always did. With a loud splash and a spray of water, the ship exploded into view, eliciting many a gasp from those on the shore. Feli watched as the ship, a stern and stately Galleon pulled close to shore and prepared to unload its passengers. Feli squeezed the package in his hands closer to his chest, memorizing the scene before him as he waited for the first passengers to disembark. Luddi was sick, still recovering from the last full moon and though he protested, Feli had insisted that he stay in bed. It took the best puppy dog eyes Feli could conjure up, as well as a stern promise that he would be there to greet Gil in Luddi’s place. And since he couldn’t be there in person, Feli wanted to make sure he could recount everything that happened. Luddi always liked Feli’s stories and Feli liked that he could make Luddi smile with something as simple as words. Most think he’s too much of a chatter box, an annoyance, but not Luddi… and not Gil. They were two of his closest friends and now, Feli gets to be with them both for his final year in Hogwarts, the thought made his cheeks flush with pleasure. He finally caught sight of the silvery-white hair, the confident stride, all signatures of his friend as the students began to walk down the gangplank. There! There was his smile, he was smiling as he spoke to another classmate, and though it wasn’t for him, Feli couldn’t help but smile in return. He began weaving his way between onlookers, determined to reach Gil first. “Gil!” He waved exuberantly as he finally saw those wine colored eyes turn to him. “I’ve missed you lots! Welcome back!” He didn’t care that he was making a scene. Gilbert was finally back in Hogwarts where he belonged and Feli wanted to make sure he got the welcome home he deserved.

| Reach out your hands Don't turn your back Don't walk away How in the world Can I wish for this? Never to be torn apart Close to you 'Til the last beat Of my heart // words: 974 // tags: Feliciano Vargas // I'M SO SORRY THIS TOOK FOREVER!!! | It’d been a great journey towards Hogwarts. Gilbert found it rather amusing that Durmstrang was choosing to literally ship its students to the British magic school. Very practical, which seemed to be the case for all of Durmstrang’s solutions. Antonio and he had had a blast, leaving no corner unexplored and no stone unturned on the journey over. It’d been a lot shorter than he’d expected…not that Gilbert and Antonio had any trouble finishing off the beer that Gilbert had brought onboard.
But now, now he was almost at Hogwarts! Gilbert’s heart soared. He hadn’t visited the school in the past three years, and he missed the place dearly. He could still picture the castle in his mind, the grounds, the Slytherin common room, the Quidditch pitch… Gilbert’s eyes lit up at the thought. Perhaps they could do some interschool Quidditch games, Gilbert would love to play against Ludwig at some point, see how he was in action now. Gilbert had no intention of going easy on his brother, and he was sure that Ludwig would do the same.
Most of the students in Durmstrang had never been to Hogwarts, and in the last hour or so, Gilbert’s presence became highly desired. Everyone wanted to know details about the grounds, the people, the biggest competition… Gilbert was more than happy to entertain, though he did roll his eyes when Svensson attempted to intimidate him and make clear that he would be the Durmstrang champion. Gilbert had bested him in Defense Against the Dark Arts to know that wouldn’t be true.
The horn was sounded, indicating that they were just minutes from shore, and Gilbert’s excitement resurfaced. Hogwarts! Hogwarts, in all its joy and glory and all its people… Ludwig was sure to greet him once he got onto shore, and there were so many old faces to see.
Gilbert didn’t even know what he wanted to do first. Probably catch up with West, see what his younger brother had been up to. The school year had only just started so it wasn’t likely they had much to talk about, but still. It was Ludwig’s last year at Hogwarts, and Gilbert knew his brother was excelling at whatever he’d set his mind to.
He wondered if West was attempting to be the Hogwarts champion for the Triwizard Tournament. Gilbert would certainly have not been surprised. His brother had always been ambitious and determined, and it would only make sense for him to be champion. Gilbert would certainly be more than happy to cheer him on from the stands. Of course, if it came down to Antonio and Lud, that would be a rather difficult situation…
It’d be, quite frankly, rather amusing if Gilbert and Ludwig both ended up being champions, though Gilbert highly doubted that would be the case. At any rate, Gilbert would find it difficult to abstain from helping Ludwig or remaining the slightest bit partial in the competition. No, Gilbert was better off on the sidelines. He didn’t mind either, as long as he was able to see his younger brother shine.
Gilbert stared out the windows of the ship as they began rising through the lake. Excitement welled up in him just as the bubbles did in the water. He was so close—
And then Gilbert could see the Great Lake.
It was a great testament to Durmstrang’s training that the students did not immediately rush out of the ship, though Gilbert was sorely tempted to. He could probably have gotten away with it if he was fast enough (and Gilbert was very fast), but instead, he grudgingly followed Antonio into line.
They exited smoothly and in a surprisingly orderly fashion, though the moment they stepped onto the deck, Gilbert was scanning the crowd eagerly for his brother. He couldn’t seem to spot him from the sea of students though, so Gilbert resigned himself to first trying to get off the boat. That was a little more difficult, given that there were only so many walkways, and Gilbert was growing quickly impatient.
“Are you excited?”
Gilbert looked up to see Elias smiling at him. Gilbert wasn’t particularly close to the younger student, but he offered a breezy smile back regardless. “Of course! My little bro studies there you know. I can’t wait to see him in action again…he’s never been more at home than at Hogwarts.”
Gilbert chatted idly with Elias as they finally, finally began departing the ship. Secretly though, he was scanning the crowds for the familiar combed blond hair that belonged to the brother he loved more than life itself. Ludwig, however, was nowhere to be found, lost to Gil in a sea of Hogwarts robes.
Suddenly, he heard someone calling his name, and Gilbert’s ears perked up. His eyes turned towards a desperately waving brunette and Gilbert lit up. Muttering a hasty excuse to Elias, Gilbert rushed towards Feliciano and swept the Italian straight off his feet to spin him in the air before setting him down and wrappin him in a hug.
“Feli! It feels like it’s been forever!” Gilbert grinned as he broke his embrace. The Italian had always been one of Gil’s favorites and Ludwig’s best friend. Feliciano was a sweetheart, and one that Gilbert was almost certain Ludwig crushed on, though they had never seemed to move past just being friends. No worries, Gilbert would surely change that, especially now that he was here.
Speaking of though…Gilbert peered over Feliciano’s head. “Where’s West?” he asked, a hint of disappointment in his throat. Had his younger brother really decided not to come greet him? That wasn’t like Ludwig at all... For a second, all the excitement sank out of Gilbert. Ludwig wasn’t ashamed of him, was he? Sure, Gilbert was the estranged son, but Ludwig had always been on his side no matter what…
