[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]Getting involved in others' business - Amelia likes to be 'in the know' about anything that is happening. Not only is she prone to gossip, but if she catches any sort of hint that those around her are in trouble, she will try to help in whatever way she believes that she can. Sometimes this works out well. Sometimes that help is wanted. Other times, Amelia is poking her nose where it doesn't really belong and it's not very well appreciated by those who fall victim to said whims.
Materialistic - The song 'Material Girl' describe Amelia to a tee. Amelia places perhaps a bit too much value on her possessions. If something is trendy, she has to have it. And no, the knockoff brand is not acceptable She may place a lot of value on her possessions, but sometimes that value is warranted. Some of her most prized possessions are those that she associates with friends and family.
Impulsive - Acting without thinking? It's not that she doesn't think, it's just that the thinking tends to come after the acting. Amelia is very excitable when he gets an idea in her head, which usually results in a 'do now, think later' sort of attitude. Which is great when it actually works out, but often times causes more harm than it does good. It's one thing to jump into a Hogsmeade trip with some friends, but another entirely to go running into the Forbidden Forest on a dare. Trust Amelia, she's done it before. Fortunately she didn't get in too far before she was caught by a professor and dragged out.
Bossy - Amelia likes to be in the driver's seat whenever anything is going on. Sadly, she usually doesn't realize this is a problem until someone calls her out on it...and depending on how tactfully they do so, Amelia might not respond in the best way either. Especially if that person happens to be the person she's attempting to boss around. If that happens to be the case, she'll probably double up on her efforts to get that person to listen to her. With all of the changes that have happened in her life, she likes to be in control of at least some aspects.
Optimistic - One of Amelia's better qualities is her ability to look at the glass half full. Even she has her limits, though, and the flip-side of this is that, if she DOES happen to shift to a pessimistic viewpoint on something, it's difficult as hell to get her out of her funk.
Insecure - Psst...wanna know the real reason why Amelia acts the way that she does? She's terrified of being alone. The more attention she has, the more opportunity she has to make friends. The more friends she has, the less time she has to spend alone. And even if they aren't friends, so long as she's getting all of that attention she'll at least be talked about. She wants to be remembered by those around her. She has a slight fear of abandonment, as her biological father never stuck around for her or her mother. It's a fear that she may not even be aware of consciously, but it certainly effects her.
Overly critical of herself- Amelia places a lot of importance on the social aspects of her life..perhaps a bit too much. Amelia is preoccupied with how others see her, to the point where she tries to hide behind a facade of sorts. It's easy for her to be friendly and kind to others, but she has a harder time behaving that way toward herself. She wants to portray herself as bubbly and confident, and while these are indeed aspects of her personality, they are not the only ones. She worries strongly about her reputation. She is afraid to show these more negative qualities to those other than her closest friends.
She has a desire to be seen as a strong woman, but struggles with the idea that a woman can be strong and yet still need comfort every once in a while. Thus, she has a tendency to bottle things up until they come out all at once..and counter-intuitively, when the tears come she tends to go off on her own rather than seek help when she needs it the most. Big girls don't cry, the saying goes.
Defensive - When others criticize her, Amelia will often go on the defense. She questions herself often, but hates when others do so. Many assume that this is arrogance, but in reality Amelia hates to hear such criticisms because they often become a part of her own self-monologue. That said, she has also been known to throw such criticisms back in others' faces. Tell Amelia she's being too loud? She'll just talk louder! (Even though she'll probably pay extra attention to the volume of her voice for the next week.)
Passionate - When Amelia likes something, she tends to throw her heart into it. She likes baseball, so she brought her trusty baseball bat with her to Hogwarts. She likes comic books (especially Wonder Woman), so she'll talk about them nonstop to anyone who's willing to listen.
Fish out of water - Amelia feels like a fish out of water in more ways than just one. First, she's an American girl who was uprooted and brought to England at the age of nine. Second, she's a halfblood witch who was raised like a Muggle for most of her life before Hogwarts. Finally, she's a city girl who's going to school in a hidden magical school out in the country. The nearby wizarding village of Hogsmeade is the closest town, and it's tiny compared to NYC. She's had several years to cope with this, so it doesn't bother her as much as it used to. Nevertheless, she still feels a bit out of place when she realizes that many of her classmates don't even know what facebook is.

history
[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]Born on the 4th of July, Amelia's temperament was discernible almost as soon as she left the womb. She was a loud baby, though one who clearly knew how to communicate what she wanted. Her mother managed to figure out her cries within the first couple of weeks. She was also on the move even from this young age, often squirming in her mother's arms as if he wanted to climb right out of them and explore. Once Amelia learned to walk, she did just that. She was also into just about everything she could get into. Her mother was ever grateful for the extra effort she'd put into childproofing the house. Once she learned to talk in full sentences, she was constantly bombarding her mother with questions and statements. Even though Amelia was turning out to be quite a handful, it was clear that she was at the very least a precocious little girl, and one that had big dreams.
Amelia had a fairly good childhood. Though her biological father wasn't in the picture, her mother married a man when Amelia was only a few months old who treated her like one of his own. On her own her mother might have struggled to pay the bills on her single salary and raise her child, but with Amelia's stepfather by her side life was suddenly a lot easier. Amelia even found a father figure in the process! Amelia's mother and father proceeded to have a child of their own, presenting Amelia with a slightly younger half sibling. It soon became very clear, however, that Amelia was anything but a normal child.
One interest that Amelia held from a young age was in superheroes. Having superpowers and being able to save the day? Well, that would be the bomb!
Though she didn't have 'superpowers', it became clear when she was six years old that she did have some sort of ability. Upset about having to leave the playplace at McDonalds at her sixth birthday party, her mother and stepfather discovered when they went to leave with young Amy that they could not open the door. No matter how hard they tried, the door would not budge. It took her mother to get the door open - and her stepfather missed the knowing look that her mother shot her daughter as they left the restaurant.
This wasn't the only incident, of course. An attempt to fly off the roof with a 'cape' attached to her back (really a towel) resulted not in the broken bones that one might except from a little girl trying to pull off such a daring and dangerous stunt. Instead, Amelia floated gently downward, literally hovering in the air as she descended slowly toward the ground.
The family moved to England when Amelia was nine. Her mother was born and raised in England and insisted that she and her younger sibling be 'schooled' in England. Amelia had a hard time adjusting at first, and acted out. As a young witch who had no training, sometimes a particularly strong burst of emotion resulted in items falling off of the shelf or shattering where they sat. There was no way to pretend that Amelia did not have something to do with this when such events were so clearly associated with her. It was time for her mother to confess that she was a witch, and that the reason they'd moved to England was so that Amelia and her younger sibling could attend Hogwarts as she had before them. At the age of eleven, a joyful Amelia received her Hogwarts letter.
Amelia started Hogwarts two months after her eleventh birthday. Amelia was not quite a hatstall, but it did take a few minutes for the Sorting Hat to reach a decision with Amelia. The house deliberated between Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Gryffindor before choosing Gryffindor for the young witch in the end.
As she went along in Hogwarts, she discovered certain subjects that she liked and others that she did not care for as much. Astronomy and Flying were by far her two favorite subjects, though she also enjoyed Charms and Transfiguration. Muggle Studies was both interesting and amusing, as a witch who'd been raised in the Muggle world for the first several years of her life. She struggled with Potions and History of Magic, and was thrilled to ditch both classes once she completed her OWLs. At least she hopes she won't need either class for the career path she settles on.
Amelia is still trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life after Hogwarts. She has it narrowed down to a few options - Astronomy, Quidditch, or Magical Law Enforcement. She's starting to feel the pressure as the deadline to decide looms closer. She's more than halfway through her time at Hogwarts. What should she do next?

[attr="class","profileboxscroll"]Upon first entering Hogwarts, Amelia was hit with a wide array of emotions. Excitement was one of the more prominent ones, and the one she opted to play up to those around her. Why of course she was excited, she was about to enter her first year at a school of magic! Right up there with excitement though was apprehension, and Amelia opted to play that card closer to her chest. A new school meant a new beginning, and a new beginning meant that she had to decide how she would move forward from here. First impressions meant everything. How she conducted herself in these early days at Hogwarts would provide a foundation for the impression of her that her peers would carry with them for the next seven years. She had to decide how she wanted to move forward, and she had to decide fast. And the fact that one of the first things she'd do upon entering a dining hall filled with other students involved being sorted into a clear-cut group, the pressure was on.
Amelia watched with bated breath as her peers steadily ventured to the front of the hall to try on a scrappy old hat that would call out the name of a house for the student. An enchanted hat was in charge of their future? She wondered how the hat even chose. The process was not the same for every student who sat under the hat. Some students were sorted from the moment the hat touched their heads, while others had to wait several minutes for the announcement. What made the difference, and how long would it take Amelia to discover which house she ended up in?
The time came for Amelia's turn, and she skipped up to the stool and crammed the hat on her head straight away. The Great Hall would see how excited she was. That's what they wanted to see, that's what they needed to see. She'd decided that already. If she had the chance to create her own path forward, she wanted to be someone that Hogwarts remembered for years to come. She did not want to fade into the woodwork. She wanted to stand out and shine! And to do that, it was best to show off to her peers straight away that she could take anything that was thrown at her.
"You're nervous," she heard a little voice in her ear. Her heart skipped a beat. Who saw through her mask? She soon realized that the hat had spoken, and she tensed up immediately at the thought of the entirety Great Hall hearing Amelia Miller's true feelings without Amelia Miller having a chance to defend herself. "Relax, only you can hear my deliberations." Amelia let out a sigh of relief. "You may prove a challenge to sort, little one." A challenge?
"A desire to protect those closest to her. Friends and family are often of high importance to those who are placed in the house of Hufflepuff." Hufflepuff? She'd heard talks about Hufflepuff on the train. One student had even called it the 'loser house'. Before she could protest that she was not a loser, the hat continued on. "Stronger though is your desire to prove yourself. The houses of Gryffindor and Slytherin both value this trait." Gryffindor or Slytherin? The silence that followed proved immensely troubling to Amelia, who wanted her answer as soon as possible. What if the hat couldn't pick a house for her? What would the student body think of her then?
"I believe that I have discovered the house that would be most suitable to you, Miss Miller." Amelia had to stop herself from responding 'What?' out loud (funny as though that might be coming from anyone else), though the question would prove to be unnecessary as the hat announced his decision to the whole of the Great Hall with no further hesitation. "Gryffindor!" And thus Amelia Miller was sorted into the Gryffindor house, where she could start to craft her legacy
