Well, I imagine them being pretty young when it starts, but probably not until 2nd or 3rd year probably, since their 1st years would be plagued just as much as trying to avoid the hazing of the older students as well as getting used to their surroundings/classwork/fellow 1st years |D

Lovi's generally got a pretty good eye when it comes to people hiding their negativity, and very sharp ears for passive aggressive behavior |D he's not as much of an expert as Matt, obviously since Lovi's just as likely to actually hex you as he is rip you down with words, but he can recognize it. Especially during classes where all their year are together from all houses, and he can see how Matthew and Alfred can interact. Tho like I was discussing before, depending on the age Lovi is just as equally likely as to rub the fact he can see through Matthew's act in his face as he is offering an unjudging outlet (since he can low-key empathize). Lovi also has a habit of keeping a shit-list, so once Matt ends up on it he wouldn't get off so easy |D

I feel like they'd try to compete in a lot of shit over the years, like classes and probs the Dueling Club (if that's a thing here), snarking at each other, and probably legit sabotaging each other as subtly as possible |D But with their shared interests in the darker side of magic, they'd probably also have to have an unspoken truce-thing of some kind because they'd learn too much dirt on each other and would not be afraid to spill should they get caught doing something they shouldn't. Like "If I go down you go down with me so you'd better not let that happen" kinda thing. At least, that's my take on it from what I understand about your character as well as mine. If nothing else, Matt can try to direct Al into Lovi's path like "I get both those idiots off my back for a second plus I get to see that idiot 'brother' of mine hexed/poisoned into the hospital wing win-win-fucking win" *shot*

Lovino Vargas //cackles// I love this already. The dynamic is perfect, I think you got exactly how Matthew would react.

I think Matthew would start his information-gathering right off the bat in the first year, but it would be too hectic for him to get anything good on Lovino. "Oh, that guy is a troublemaker." And then it would really start off in, say, the second year -- because I think that Matthew would have adjusted pretty well to his own game by that time and started going around starting up his act. He and Lovino are the same age, so I figure that they'd share some classes; I'm pretty sure that Lovino would get wind of his behaviour around that time. It'd be pretty easy to pick up the fact that Matthew is related to Alfred, yeah, because he has a subconscious "oh shit that guy" cringe reaction whenever Alfred's name is even mentioned. He really is good at holding grudges.

I think it'd be fun to have them sort of in an odd dance where they're trying to get dirt on each other and harass/terrorise each other to the end of time during classes/duelling, but also act as outlets for each other on the side? Like, it wouldn't be said, and neither of them would ever admit to it, but like you said: they do have similar brotherly problems. It could be as much as Lovino simply complaining to Mattie about it once, and then Mattie doing the same the next day. Just start up a pattern of "secretly" acting as each other's ways of venting.

That would also give them a lot more reason to keep their unspoken "truce". And yeah, you've got Mattie's behaviour spot-on. It'd be fun to see that relationship between them, a sort of shaky alliance/rivalry.

Matt would love to see Al in the hospital wing as long as he knows the harm isn't permanent. He isn't that evil -- well, unless Al does something to annoy him terribly. The hate is strong in this one. And Matt isn't against getting Lovi in minor troubles even if they do have a mutual understanding. >D

If you're all right with all that... hmm, as for where to start out, I think it'd be interesting to see Lovino confronting Matthew about his sneaky behaviour in their early years? Second or third, like you said. I really like the idea where they snark at each other and Matthew just eventually goes "Shut up unless you want me as your HoM tutor" (in politer terms, ofc) and Lovino shows up the next day with a shit-eating grin like "hey you said you'd be my tutor, right?". That'd give them some time over the years to build up their odd relationship until the time of the tournament.

(That being said, I'm not sure how past threads work, if they do. Just throwing that out as an initial idea, though! It seemed fun to work with, especially with these two little kiddos hurling masked insults at each other.)

Matthew J. Williams FFFFF I'm so sorry this took so long to reply to hahaha |D; Work's been hectic and I've been sleeping like the dead in my time off LOL

Anyway, Lovi's problems aren't quite so noticeable as Matt's, and most of his "problems" with his brother are jealousy that Feli can...do as he pleases, yeah? Some of Lovi's issues are self-inflicted, and while he wouldn't change his situation if he had the chance just because he couldn't bring himself to force this shit on his brother instead (guilty conscience yo) he'd still spend a lot of his adolescence jealous that Feli can go freely make friends, happily make and break plans for the future, etc, while Lovi is stuck fulfilling their parents' wishes for an heir to the Vargas Family. So when that frustration and jealousy gets too badly to bear, he 100% takes it out on other people so it'd be nice if he'd have an outlet with Matthew to handle this shit without judgement (though we both know Matt is 100% silently judging, just like Lovi is probably judging on his own side of the table).

And don't worry, Lovi's "harassment" doesn't garner permanent damage, so every once in a while, when Lovi hears about a particularly embarrassing/irritating time his frenemy has to go through with Alfred, Lovi will put Al in the hospital wing (or at least try lol)

I think a past thread would be very interesting! Generally on other sites, you just put a thread in the area where the thread is set and put [Past] in the title--I'm not sure if that's how it works here, but I'm assuming it is lol. So we could either do their first "real" clash where Lovi confronts Matthew in 2nd/3rd year, or jump to 5th year during a "tutoring session" between Matthew and Lovino for OWLs (where Matthew can make fun of Lovi for his continued idiocy in HoM). And if we can't end up doing the Past threads (we'll have to talk to the mods to see if that's a thing that exists here, and how it's done) we can always have them "coincidentally" running into each other in the Library in the Dark Arts section, or having an illegal duel in the dungeons somewhere to practice their new evil spells on one another lol It's up to you!

It all looks cool to me! And yeah, I think a [Past] is all ya need to make the thread a past thread. I think it works out perfectly! It'd be fun to try the first encounter, let's see these little kids confront each other and get all mad ;D it'd also be a fun comparison for later on threads, seeing how they develop alongside each other?
